About Richard Averbeck

Richard Averbeck is Professor of Old Testament and Semitic Languages at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois. Prior to his work at Trinity, Dr. Averbeck taught at Dallas Theological Seminary and Grace Theological Seminary. His research interests include the Pentateuch, ancient Near Eastern history and languages, and Hebrew. He has contributed to the Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology (Baker, 1995), theNew International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology and Exegesis (Zondervan, 1997), and Crossing Boundaries and Linking Horizons: Studies in Honor of Michael C. Astour (CDL Press, 1997). Averbeck is the author or editor of Faith, Tradition, and History (Eisenbrauns, 1994), Cracking Old Testament Codes: Guide to Interpreting Old Testament Literary Forms(B&H, 1995), and Life and Culture in Ancient Near East (CDL Press, 2003). He has also contributed translation work for The Holman Christian Standard Bible and The NET Bible.
