Harry A. Hoffner, Jr. is considered a world expert on ancient Near Eastern culture and is John A. Wilson Professor of Hittitology Emeritus at the University of Chicago where he specializes in Hittite language, history, and civilization. He has also taught at Yale University, Brandeis University, and Wheaton College. He founded The Hittite Dictionary of The Oriental Institute of The University of Chicago, and is presently its Senior Editor, is a former member of the editorial board of Writings From the Ancient World, sponsored by the Society of Biblical Literature, and is an editorial consultant for The Context of Scripture, published by Brill. He has written ten books on Hittite culture, co-authored the new standard grammar of the Hittite language, as well as co-authored and edited numerous volumes and published dozens of scholarly articles on Near Eastern history and culture. He was a special consultant on Hittite literature and a contributor of many articles for The Context of Scripture, ed. William W. Hallo and K. Lawson Younger (Brill, 1997).
